Questions About Sea Cadets...

How old do I have to be to join?

Cadets must be between the ages of 12-18 to join. For younger children (ages 9-12), check out the NAVY LEAGE CORPS C.B. HILL

Will I Have to do Military Service?

No, although the cadet program is funded by the Department of National Defence, Cadets are not members of the military and are not required to do any sort of military service at any point

What is the cost to join?

Nothing, there is no cost to join!! All costs are covered, including uniforms, weekend trips, and summer camps!

What does RCSCC Warrior Do?

RCSCC Warrior parades (meets) on a weekly basis every Thursday at the HMCS Nonsuch Naval Reserve Facility. On these nights we learn a variety of skills such as sailing, sports, citizenship, drill (marching), teamwork, and leadership. Usually the older, experienced cadets teach the younger cadets the skills necessary to advance in the cadet program. Besides these weekly meetings, we also go on various weekend activities throughout the year doing things like outdoor adventure training, sailing, sports, and range. Being in a cadet corps gives you the opportunity to meet life-long friends.

What kind of extra activities can I do as a cadet?

There are tons of extra things you can do with Warrior outside of parade nights. For musicians, we have a band which practices every Sunday and does various performances throughout the year. We also have a guard (a group of cadets that carries rifles on parade and learns complicated drill movements) which also practices on Sundays.

For people who enjoy sports, we have a biathlon team (biathlon is a combination of cross-country skiing and shooting) that participates in competitions with other units. We also have a marksmanship team and put together various sports teams for a yearly province wide sports competition.

Is there any opportunity for traveling as a cadet?

Yes! Every summer you have the option of going to summer camps which are located all over the country. There is no cost to go to these camps and they can run anywhere from 2-8 weeks long depending on what course you take. After a certain number of summers you actually have the option of working at one of these camps and making lots of money. At summer camps you will meet great friends and learn lots of new skills!

There are also other opportunities to travel in Sea Cadets. Some cadets get the chance to go on two week international exchanges or ship deployments with the Canadian Navy or Coast Guard. We also do some traveling at the local corps level throughout the province, and in the past RCSCC Warrior has gone to Great Britain, Victoria, and San Diego!

How and when can I join?

Cadets can join anytime of the year. You will undergo a four week "New Entry Training Program" where you will learn the basics of our corps and the cadet program. There is no obligation to join during this period and you can decide during this time whether or not cadets is for you. To start, just give us a call or stop by on a Thursday evening!
