Edmonton’s RCSCC Warrior Hauls Together

It is time to “haul together” and celebrate Warrior’s seventy-fifth anniversary.

Warrior was founded in 1934 by a group of former sailors; it was the second Sea Cadet corps to be established in Alberta, and the first in Edmonton.  Dues were five cents per week to help with costs.

The name Warrior was chosen in honour of the corps’ first Chief Petty Officer, Charles Mann.  Mann had served onboard the Royal Navy ship Warrior in World War One.

Warrior’s motto – Haul Together – was created by Captain F.L. Houghton, who commanded the first Canadian ship to bear the name Warrior.

And “haul together” Warrior has.

Over the years Warrior cadets have travelled the world, met royalty, won numerous provincial and national competitions, and benefitted greatly from their time in the corps.

Today, Warrior is home to four divisions, including vibrant band and guard programs, and a biathlon team.  Warrior cadets continue to take part in international exchanges and training opportunities across Canada.

Testimony to the positive impact Warrior has had on cadets is the fact that many of them return as adults to fill roles ranging from Supply Officer to C.O.

A seventy-fifth anniversary reunion is planned for the 23-25 October 2009.

As part of the celebration we are collecting reminiscences from former cadets and officers about their time with the corps.  If you would like to share your memories – or know someone who would, please contact the Warrior office at 780-451-4419 or e-mail reunion@rcsccwarrior.ab.ca.
